There is something quietly special about a mug that was made by hand, in a studio, by someone who cared about the shape of the handle. Habulous makes all of their ceramics in Devon using British clay — not as a marketing point, but because it is how they have always worked.
The primrose design is part of a wider floral collection. In Devon and Cornwall, wild primroses appear in February and carry through spring — and the flower has long been associated with youth, renewal, and optimism. It is also the birth flower for February, which makes this a genuinely thoughtful gift if you know someone with a February birthday.
The technique matters here. Each design is hand-painted using a wax resist method: the pattern is applied in wax before glazing, so when the mug is fired, the wax burns away and leaves a delicate floral silhouette in the clay beneath. No two are identical. Yours will be close to the images, but not a copy of them — that is the point.
The form is as considered as the decoration. The flared base and generous width give the mug a stable, comfortable feel in the hand, and the stoneware clay retains heat longer than standard earthenware, so your drink stays warmer for longer without needing a lid.
