Choosing a cotton bra

A cotton bra is the one to reach for on ordinary days, because the fabric breathes and feels soft against the skin. Look at the fabric mix first: a small amount of elastane lets the bra stretch with you and hold its shape after washing. Komodo makes both bras here in 95% organic cotton and 5% elastane, in UK sizes 8 to 16 (EUR 36 to 44). Komodo has worked with organic and natural fibres since 1988, and we looked at its fabrics and supply chain before it joined Ziracle.

The Anastasia and the Margot

The Anastasia is an everyday bra in black, with a simple, clean shape. The Margot is a lace bra in grey, and its lace is made from the same organic cotton blend, so there is no synthetic trim. Both carry GOTS certification, which covers the whole production chain: the cotton itself, plus dyeing, finishing and sewing. Both bras are vegan. The range is small, so it suits anyone who wants one or two organic cotton bras that go with everything, rather than a drawer full of styles.

Fit and sizing

Check the size guide on each listing before you order, as Komodo sizes these bras in UK dress sizes 8 to 16, rather than by band and cup. The listings also show the size the model wears, which helps you compare. If you are between sizes, think about how you like a bra to feel: snug for more hold, or a little looser for lounging at home. A bra should feel secure without digging in at the shoulders or under the bust.

Caring for a cotton bra

Komodo recommends a 30 degree wash on an eco cycle. Wash bras in a laundry bag, so the lace does not snag on other clothes. Dry them flat or on a line rather than in the tumble dryer, which wears out elastane faster, and reshape them while they are damp. Rotate two or three bras through the week, so each one has time to recover its shape. Underwear has organic cotton briefs and boxers, Women's Underwear has the Anastasia in grey with matching briefs, Pyjamas has organic cotton nightwear, and The sustainable underwear guide (the easiest swap in your wardrobe) explains what to look for.
