Choosing motivational posters

Motivational posters work best when the message is one you will still like reading in a year, so choose words that feel personal rather than loud. Think about where the poster will hang, too. A desk calls for something small and calm, while a hallway can take a bolder print. In a child's room or a home office, a short positive word works better than a long quote, because it reads at a glance from across the room. The Mood Club makes most of the motivational posters here, with single-word designs such as Confidence, Kindness, Empathy, Love, Gratitude and Happiness. We checked each studio for how its prints are made and what paper they use.

Affirmation posters and frames

Affirmation posters repeat a short, positive phrase you see every day. Give Yourself Kindness makes a copper and glass affirmation frame with cards printed in the UK on FSC-certified card, so you can swap the message as often as you like. It suits a bedside table or a shelf, where a framed poster would be too big, and the cards make a thoughtful present for a friend going through a busy time. Sop makes the Slow You Down and Never Work Again prints, printed on 300gsm GF Smith Fresco Gesso paper from FSC sources.

Illustrated prints and art prints

Illustrated prints bring colour and character to a room. Deidei makes the Blossom Fry Up, Blossom Street and Chair prints, printed in the UK on FSC-certified paper, and Frida Rome makes the 'I Want' art print on thick matte paper. Group two or three art prints in matching frames for a gallery wall, and leave about 5cm between frames. Hang prints at eye level, with the centre roughly 145cm from the floor.

Framing and caring for motivational posters

Use a mount to give a print breathing space, and choose glass or acrylic to keep dust off. Keep prints out of strong direct sun, which fades inks over time, and away from steamy bathrooms unless they are framed. A print rolled in a tube flattens if you leave it under a few books for a day. Change prints with the seasons to keep a wall feeling fresh, and store spare prints flat in a folder. Stationery has handprinted cards, Mindfulness Tools has affirmation cards, Cushions & Covers has printed cushions, and How to bring more hygge into your life has ideas for a cosy home.

Common questions

Do the prints come framed?

Most prints come unframed, apart from the affirmation frame from Give Yourself Kindness. Check each listing for the size before you buy a frame.

What paper are the prints printed on?

Many are printed in the UK on FSC-certified paper. Sop uses 300gsm GF Smith Fresco Gesso paper, and Frida Rome uses a thick matte paper.

How high should you hang wall art?

Aim for the centre of the print to sit about 145cm from the floor. Above a sofa, leave around 20cm between the frame and the back of the sofa.

How do you stop prints fading?

Keep them out of strong direct sunlight and frame them behind glass or acrylic. A UV-filtering glass helps in very bright rooms.
