There is a particular pleasure in drinking from something made by hand. Habulous make their ceramics in small batches in Devon, using British clay and traditional techniques — and this Cherry Blossom mug is a good example of why that matters.
The blossom design is hand-painted using a wax-resist method: the pattern is applied before glazing, and when the piece is fired, the wax burns away to leave a clean, delicate silhouette of a blossom branch against the glaze. No two are identical. Yours will be close to the images, but not a copy of them — which is the point.
The shape has been thought through as carefully as the decoration. The flared base and generous width give it stability and a good volume (400ml — enough for a proper cup). Stoneware retains heat better than earthenware or porcelain, so your drink stays warmer for longer. The handle dimensions are sized for a comfortable grip rather than an elegant one.
