There are match holders, and then there are pieces you actually want to leave out on the mantelpiece. This bird pot from Habulous is both.
Handmade in Great Britain using British clay and traditional pottery methods, each bird is shaped and glazed entirely by hand — beak, body, and all. That means yours will differ slightly from the one in the photograph, and that is the point. The off-white glaze gives it a clean, quiet presence that works alongside almost anything, from a cluster of tealight holders to a kitchen shelf.
The bird arrives filled with approximately 50 matches (measured by weight), their coloured heads fanned out like plumage. When the matches run out, refill with your choice of colour — white for a minimal look, pastel mix for something a little more playful. The striker pad is built into the pot and will wear over time; replacement matches and additional strike pads are available separately from Habulous.
Once the matches are gone for good, the pot earns a second life. Habulous suggest cotton buds, pencils, or dried flower buds — all of which make sense given the scale.
