Habulous has made something that earns its place on the mantlepiece: a ceramic bird pot with a built-in strike pad, sized for extra-long 10cm matches that reach a candle wick or woodburner without the usual fumbling.
Because every pot is handmade in Great Britain using British clay — beak, body, and glaze applied by hand — each one is genuinely unique. The cornflower blue glaze varies slightly from piece to piece, which is not a quality issue; it is the point. What arrives at your door will not look exactly like the photograph, and that is a feature, not a caveat.
The pot comes filled with approximately 50 matches (measured by weight), and you can choose between white or pastel mix match colours. When the matches run out, refill it. When the strike pad wears down, replacement pads and matches are available separately. The bird itself keeps going.
Beyond matches, the pot works just as well as a small vessel for cotton buds, pencils, or dried botanicals — the opening is practical enough to repurpose without looking like you have.
