Big Nose and Beardy's Apple Shrub Bundle is built for exactly that: two 1-litre bottles of their pressed apple juice alongside a 500ml bottle of their Shrub, enough to carry you through to spring without once feeling like you are missing out.
The Shrub is the thing that makes this bundle. It starts with raw apple cider vinegar made from vintage cider that has been allowed to naturally re-ferment, converting all the alcohol to acetic acid. That vinegar is then matured for a further eight years — which is not something you find in a supermarket aisle. Into that base go hedgerow bitters and botanicals: Fennel, Bay, Rosemary, Dandelion Root, Lemon, Black Currant, and Pepper. The result is bitter, layered, and genuinely complex.
The Shrub contains the apple cider vinegar 'mother', which will continue to develop until consumed. It does not affect the flavour, but it may look a little funky — that is a sign it is the real thing.
The apples behind both the juice and the vinegar come from local private gardens and orchards across Sussex, hand-picked with the help of volunteers. Pressing is powered by a combination of solar, water, and human energy. Apple pomace left after pressing goes to local pigs and cows. Packaging — glass bottles, metal caps, cardboard cases — is fully recyclable.
