There is a reason the bar of soap keeps coming back. No pump, no bottle, no plastic — just a bar that does the job and leaves nothing behind. Green Island commissioned this one specifically from Bean & Boy, a family-run soap maker local to them in Essex, and had their own logo pressed into every bar. It is a small detail, but it tells you something about how seriously this was put together.
The Wildflower & Oats bar is built in two distinct layers. The base is pink clay — gently drawing and softening. On top sits an exfoliating layer of calendula and oats, finished with bright calendula petals that give the bar a burst of yellow. The scent is citrus-floral: rose geranium, lavender, and litsea cubeba essential oils working together rather than competing. It is described as great for all-over use, and the scrubby texture backs that up.
Each bar is traditionally made, rough cut, and cured for a minimum of six weeks before it reaches you — that curing time is what gives a handmade bar its longevity and hardness. Because every bar is made entirely by hand, colour and shape vary slightly. That is not a flaw; it is the point.
