Pilling is not a sign of poor quality — it is what happens when friction bonds the short surface fibres of any knit together over time. It is especially common with luxury fibres like cashmere, precisely because the shorter fibre length that makes them soft also makes them prone to bobbling. The good news is it is entirely reversible.

Socko's pilling comb does one thing and does it well: it lifts and removes those bonded fibres cleanly, restoring the surface of your knitwear without the risk of snagging or cutting that comes with electric fabric shavers. The wooden handle makes it easy to grip and control, and at 7.7cm x 4.3cm x 0.7cm it is small enough to keep in a drawer or travel with.

Using it takes about thirty seconds. Lay the garment flat, hold the fabric taut, and comb in one direction. That is it.

Key facts:

  • Material: FSC-certified beech wood
  • Dimensions: 7.7cm x 4.3cm x 0.7cm
  • Suitable for: cashmere, wool, and all knitwear prone to pilling
  • FSC certification covers the entire supply chain from forest to end consumer
  • Manufactured in China (Socko note: they searched extensively for a UK manufacturer and were unable to find one — they are transparent about this on their website)

How to use: Hold the top end of your bobbly knitwear firmly on a flat surface. Comb away in one direction to remove excess fluff and bobbles.

This is the kind of tool that extends the life of pieces you already own — which is exactly the repair-and-keep philosophy that Socko is built around. A cashmere jumper that pills and gets thrown out is a cashmere jumper that did not need to go anywhere.
