Washing synthetic clothing — tights, leggings, activewear — accounts for nearly 35% of the microplastics released into the environment each year. That is roughly the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles' worth of non-biodegradable plastic fibres, too fine for most water treatment systems to catch.
The Guppyfriend washing bag works at the source. Place your synthetics inside, zip it closed, and wash as normal. The bag's fine-weave structure captures the microfibres that shed during the cycle, stopping them from reaching your drain entirely. There is a secondary benefit worth noting: clothes that shed fewer fibres degrade more slowly, which means your tights, leggings, and other synthetics genuinely last longer.

How to use: Place synthetic garments inside the bag and zip closed before placing in the washing machine. Wash at 30°C. Once a visible cluster of microfibres forms on the inside of the bag, scrape them off carefully. The collected microfibres must be disposed of in general waste — landfill is not ideal, but it is significantly better than releasing them into waterways. Wash less. Wash smarter.
A note on the microfibres you collect: there is currently no domestic recycling route for fibres this fine. Landfill disposal is the responsible choice until better infrastructure exists — and being honest about that is part of why this product belongs on Ziracle.
