There are decorative objects that sit on a shelf and decorative objects that actually do something. This ceramic bird from Habulous does both.
The bird's back is open, designed to hold whatever you want to push through it — dried flowers, cotton buds, pencils, air plants, or 10cm matchsticks if you want to use the larger size as a match striker pot (Habulous also sells a striker pad that fits the base). The inside is unglazed, so it is not designed to hold water directly; if you are putting in fresh or picked flowers, a small lid with water inside works well. To keep your chosen plumage in place, a small bundle of paper, sponge, moss, or blu-tac inside the cavity does the job neatly.
Every bird is made entirely by hand in Great Britain using British clay — from the beak to the body to the glaze. That means yours will differ slightly from the images, and that is the point. Small-batch, handmade production is what Habulous is built on, and it shows in the finish.
Available in two sizes and five pastel colourways — Off-White, Light Yellow, Pale Pink, Cornflower Blue, and Mint Green — they are designed to be collected. Habulous calls it a flock, and honestly, that tracks.
