There is something quietly compelling about a vase that looks like the landscape it came from. Habulous makes this dome vase in Dartmoor, and the earthy greens and browns of the double glaze are a direct reference to the gorse, forest, and open terrain just outside the studio door.
The form is distinctive: a wide, low dome with a narrow 3.2cm rim that suits a single stem or a small, considered bunch as well as it suits standing empty. The natural clay is left visible between the two glazes, baking to a warm cream in the kiln — a subtle contrast in texture that gives the piece its handmade character without announcing it.
Because each piece is thrown and finished by hand, no two are identical. There may be natural flecking in the clay from kiln reactions — this is not a flaw, it is the record of how the piece was made. The last product image shows what this can look like.
