These stocking and tree shaped ornaments are hand embroidered by two named artisans — Shobha and Suman — in India, using a technique that has been practised for more than a hundred years. The fabric is stretched onto a wooden frame called an adda before embroidery begins, a method that keeps the tension even and the stitching precise. Once the embroidery is complete, each piece is hand stitched into its final shape. The beaded border is the finishing detail that gives them their Scandi character: simple, graphic, quietly considered.
