The Watergate shape started with a conversation between Bear Essentials and the surfboard shapers who work the bay. The result is a curvy, playful silhouette — wider at the cheekbone, tapering at the temple — that mirrors the rolling swell Watergate Bay is known for year-round. It suits round, oval, and diamond face shapes particularly well.
Each frame is built from sustainably sourced high-grade hardwood veneer, layered with thin sheets of aluminium for structural integrity. That combination means the frame flexes slightly rather than snapping under pressure, and holds its shape across seasons. No two frames are identical — the grain pattern and finish vary naturally from piece to piece, which is the point.
The lenses are polarised with UV400 protection. Polarisation reduces reflected glare from water, snow, and wet roads — the kind of light that causes squinting and eye fatigue on bright days. UV400 blocks the full spectrum of ultraviolet radiation.
