The AMAR is the backpack for people who are tired of choosing between a bag that looks good and one they can feel good about. Komodo has been making that argument since 1988, and the AMAR is a clean expression of it: a minimalist roll-top in olive green canvas that does not announce its ethics — it just carries your things well and lasts.
The canvas is 560 GSM organic Fairtrade cotton, which is meaningfully heavier than the 300–400 GSM fabrics common in everyday backpacks. That weight is what gives the AMAR its structure without a rigid frame, and it is what makes the natural water resistance work — the weave is dense enough to shed light rain without a chemical coating. It will develop character with use, which is the honest way of saying it gets better rather than worse.
The roll-top system is the practical heart of it. At its base the main compartment holds 15 litres; roll it out and you gain another 5, sealed with a YKK zipper at the top. The laptop compartment sits against the padded back panel and fits up to a 15-inch screen (approximately 38 cm × 28 cm). Inside the main compartment there is a key fob and a mobile phone pocket. The patch pocket on the front handles the things you need without opening the bag.
Every strap is 100% organic cotton. The buckles are nickel- and chromium-free. The back cushions are EVA rubber. Nothing here is animal-derived — the AMAR is fully vegan.
