Most mineral sunscreens make you choose between reef-safe credentials and a finish you can actually wear. Sintra Naturals' Vegan Mineral Suncream SPF 30 does not ask you to make that trade-off.
The active ingredient is ZinClear XP, a non-nano zinc oxide that is Ecocert-approved and listed as coral and marine-life safe. Non-nano matters here: nano-particle zinc can penetrate the skin barrier and has raised concerns about marine toxicity; non-nano particles sit on the surface, do the job, and wash off without the same environmental risk. The formulation achieves a high degree of transparency on skin — the characteristic white cast of older mineral sunscreens is largely absent.
The SPF 30 claim is not self-declared. The product has been clinically tested in vivo and in vitro by CPTC Labs, a testing facility with 40 years of experience, to ISO 24444 (the European, UK, Australian, and New Zealand standard) and ISO 24442 (EU UVA protection factor). The outcome: confirmed SPF 30 with broad-spectrum coverage across UVB, UVA-I, and UVA-II.
The formula also includes Antileukine 6, derived from Laminaria ochroleuca (a golden seaweed), which in clinical studies reduced redness by 11% after a first application compared with untreated irradiated skin at 24 hours. It acts as a DNA protector after UVA/UVB exposure and has demonstrated anti-photoageing properties in vivo.
Packaging is plastic-free, made from recycled board with biodegradable inks and glue. 10p from every sale goes to the Marine Conservation Society.

How to use:
- Apply sunscreen before going outdoors. It takes approximately 15 minutes for your skin to absorb the sunscreen and protect you. If you wait until you are in the sun to apply sunscreen, your skin is unprotected and can burn.
- Use enough sunscreen. Most adults need about 1 ounce to fully cover their body. Rub the sunscreen thoroughly into your skin.
- Apply sunscreen to all bare skin. Remember your neck, face, ears, tops of your feet and legs. For hard-to-reach areas like your back, ask someone to help you.
- To remain protected when outdoors, reapply sunscreen every two hours, or immediately after swimming or sweating.
Suitability: Suitable for men, women, and children over 6 months of age. Babies under 6 months should not use sunscreen — shade and sun-protective clothing are recommended for infants.
Aftercare: Mineral sunscreens can be drying to the skin. After sun exposure, cleanse with a soothing cleansing balm and apply a vegan body butter or facial balm to keep skin supple.
