Cling film is one of those kitchen habits that is genuinely easy to break once you have something that works as well. These wraps from Auklett do. The combination of food-grade candelilla wax (a plant-based alternative to beeswax), extra-virgin olive oil, and Grade A damar tree resin gives the cotton enough cling and flexibility to seal around bowls, cover half an onion, wrap a sandwich, or keep an open bottle of wine fresh — without anything synthetic touching your food.
The cotton base is OEKO-TEX certified, which means it has been tested against a list of harmful substances and cleared at every stage of production. The wraps are also free from palm and soy products.
This set covers the three sizes you will actually reach for:
- 1x Large (30cm) — wrap a tomato, apple, jar, or snacks for on-the-go
- 1x Medium (25cm) — wrap a sandwich, burger, or large fruit
- 1x Small (20cm) — cover a large bowl, a pie dish, or wrap a long sandwich
They work in the freezer. When they eventually wear out — typically after 6–12 months of regular use — they can be rewaxed with Refresher Bars, composted, or used as firelighters. Nothing goes to landfill.
A note on the wraps: because they are cut by hand, there may be slight variations in size. Tiny flecks of tree resin or plant material are normal and do not affect food safety or performance.
How to use: Use the heat of your hands to soften the wrap before using it for the first time — it can be a little sticky initially. Use to wrap leftovers, cover bowls, wrap sandwiches, half an onion, apple, and more. Also suitable for keeping open bottles of wine fresh and covering a toothbrush for travel. Works in the freezer. Give the wrap a quick rinse in cool or cold water before first use.
Care: Clean with cool or cold water only and air dry. Store in a cool, dry place. Keep away from heat, hot water, ovens, microwaves, and dishwashers — the wax will melt. Do not use with raw meat or fish. If you have a nut allergy, avoid all wax food wraps. When the wrap begins to lose its effectiveness, it can be rewaxed with Refresher Bars, composted, or used as a firelighter.
