There is something quietly satisfying about an oil pourer that actually does its job. Most sit on the table looking decorative while quietly letting light and air degrade whatever is inside. This one, made by Habulous in Dartmoor, is built differently.
The stoneware clay is fired to a robust finish, and the internal tin glaze creates a seal that blocks out light and air — the two main culprits behind oil going stale before the bottle is finished. It sits comfortably in the hand, pours cleanly, and looks like it belongs on the table rather than being hidden away.
The earthy greens and browns of the Moorland glaze are a direct reference to the landscape where these pieces are made: the gorse, the forest, the long open stretches of Dartmoor. Where the two glazes meet, the natural clay bakes to a warm cream, creating a gentle shift in texture that you notice more the longer you look. Natural flecking from kiln reactions is part of the character — not a flaw.
Because each piece is thrown by hand in small batches using British clay, yours will differ slightly from the one in the photograph. That is the point. If you are putting two or three different dressings on the table at once, the individuality becomes genuinely useful — each pourer is identifiable at a glance.
